    • I am not going to rate this book. I see a lot like it and a few didn't. I am leaning to the side 'didn't'.I thought it sounded really good going by the blurb which enticed me to read this. I picked this up several times and laid it aside for another book more than once. This is a love story between two women. Its intense, erotic and could have been so tender but its written in a rushed way. It all happens just a little bit too soon. Its not a well rounded story, its not well written and I am won [...]

    • Blake, a schoolteacher, suffers from social anxiety disorder. While on vacation in Galveston, her best friend drags her to a local bar for some much needed socializing. With a bit of help from Xanax, she manages to lose herself in a sexy dance, and snag a beautiful partner at the same time, policewoman Lindsay. The instant attraction surprises them both--Blake because of her lifelong disability and Lindsay because she's only ever cared for her career. But before anything else happens, tragedy st [...]

    • Wonderful DebutForsaken is one of the first books I’ve read in the better part of a year. I think this book was a great welcome back to the world of reading. It didn’t take me long to get swallowed up by this page turner. I can totally relate to Blake with her shyness and acute anxiety disorder. I found them to be realistic and it seems to me the author understands the condition quite well. While the attacks are a big part of Blake’s life they are not the only things that define her. Kryst [...]

    • I really enjoyed this well written, fast paced novel. The writing was polished and the characters were engaging. Impressive debut for Laydin Michaels.I liked the way the author added fresh challenges to the budding relationship between school teacher Blake Campbell and wannabe Texas Ranger Lindsay Duvall. Blake's social anxiety and Lindsay's driving determination to become a Ranger are character traits which come into play at often inconvenient times. These are not perfect women and I found this [...]

    • A believable thriller with a nice enough love story. Fairly well-written for a debut novel with interesting plot and characters. The author had some problems with the characterization of the antagonist. There was clumsiness in that part but nothing that pulled me out of the story. (view spoiler)[One example is the red light that indicates to the antagonist that he is on the right path for murder by God's will. Although we were often in his mind, this is not well explained. (hide spoiler)]All in [...]

    • Interesting reviews thus far but don't be fooled, this is a terrible book! It's part rushed lesbian romance, part sloppily pieced together serial killer/procedural, and part Kellie Martin-esque after school special. Topic of the day apparently is social anxiety disorder. One of the characters apparently has anxiety and every chapter she's in, the "disorder" is front and center. However, it really has very little to do with any of the stories going on in this book--it feels like a forced b-plot. [...]

    • Forsaken was a compelling novel with well developed characters. I enjoyed Blake's character the most. As she dealt with her personal demons with the help of her best friend and was still able to help others. The only downfall was the end. I just felt it wrapped up a little too easily and quickly. But definitely a great story and I look forward to reading more from Laydin Michaels.

    • This book is a guaranteed page turner. The characters are riveting and the tension held throughout the entire story. I didn't want to see it end. I'm glad there's a second novel by this author. Definitely one not to miss.

    • Blake has crippling social anxiety, but with the help of Xanax and prodding from her best friend Krystal, she forces herself to socialize; which on this occasion means visiting a well-known lesbian bar in Galveston, where they are vacationing. As she is dancing, lost in her own world, she is spotted by one of the regulars, Lindsay, who is mesmerized by her. Lindsay is a hard-charging state trooper with dreams of being a Texas Ranger and nothing can be allowed to stand in the way. Lindsay and Bla [...]

    • First let me say I picked up this book because I thought it was a crime mystery/thriller with lesbian characters. I tend to think there aren't enough of in that genre so when I encounter it, I try to support it. That being said, this story actually started out more "romancey". Yes I made up my own word. Anyway, the story started a little slow because the author was giving us some background on the main characters and there were two storylines running. Around the 25% mark the story-lines converge [...]

    • I received an ARC of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting read, and I truly enjoyed it, but I wonder if it could have been just that little bit better if the focus hadn't been so split. The book starts out like a contemporary romance, and it starts out sweet and makes you like the two main characters, and root for their budding romance. Then we get sucked in to this serial killer's mind, and the book totally takes a turn. I will say that Mic [...]

    • Shy, anxious Blake finds socialising very difficult but her friend Krystal does all she can to get her out and about. They meet State Trooper, Lindsay, at a club and all hit it off immediately. Blake and Lindsay are attracted to each other and Blake overcomes her social anxiety and agrees to a date. Tragedy strikes the group of friends though when a vicious murder takes place. The story develops at a great pace, with just the right amount of tension. Lindsay wants to become a Texas Ranger and bei [...]

    • This is an honest review thanks to NetGalley, I wanted to like this book, it started out extremely well. I loved the idea of a main character with social anxiety, with anxiety problems of my own I related extremely well to her as well as the problems she faced on a daily basis. It went downhill from there, once the murder investigation started Lindsay's abrupt emotional and physical departure from Blake rubbed me the wrong way. She was suffering from being kidnapped from a serial killer and her [...]
